   I will probably take off work Friday and Monday. I am definitely flying. How serious are we about driving into the mountains to ski/spend a night? If we want to stay at one of the resorts one night, we should probably start looking for a place now.

   I’m flying…I love roadtrips but I can’t take that many days off work. I’m thinking of taking off Friday and Monday as well. Lauren are you planning on flying out on Thursday night then? I really want to ski so if no one plans on driving we should probably plan on chipping in to rent a car to get out there. As to where, I have never skiied out west so I really don’t have any input on which mountain/resort.

   Joe, when are you officially moving out there?

   flying, flying flying. driving through the great plains SUuuuUUUCKS unless we do it HST or “bender” style, and i imagine we’re all too uncool for that.

   i can definitely take monday off. not so sure about friday (i think i’m done with finals on thursday but my syllabuses are at home and i’m not gonna be home for a bit). as for skiing-i think we should go where the lift tickets aren’t ridiculous and there’s a couple cool bars. keystone? breckenridge? winter park? i seem to remember the “locals” liking winter park when i was there, but that was 10 years ago.

   also, for car rentals, national was WAY cheap for my move back to chicago. we gotta brand new minivan for like $100 a day mileage included (so this should be cheaper since the mileage should be small in comparison).

   i can’t fly out til friday night, so i vote skiing on saturday and/or sunday. breckenridge was good, but i would try some other place. gotta make sure its close to denver!

   so far winter park looks good – it seems more affordable, less touristy, and they supposedly have good early season snow.

   If we stay in Summit County, breckenridge, Abasin, Keystone and Copper Mountain are all accessible by shuttles that run between all the resorts. That might be our best bet. Plus breckenridge has fun nightlife.
   I think copper mountain is cheaper than some of the others.

    yeah, keystone DOES have night skiing. one of the runs with lights is a super-long and super-easy one too, from what i remember.

    as far as driving, i guess i’ll volunteer. i took a vw beetle through some heavy shit in the appalachians a few years ago (4″ + of snow an hour) and no one was significantly injured.

    actually, that was really scary. if it’s snowstorming, i nominate anyoneelse to drive, and i’ll hold the map.

    Dude, those flights suck. It leaves friday NIGHT, defeating the purpose of taking friday off, and returns tuesday NIGHT, which would require also taking tuesday off.

    Well, I was adjusting the days since Dan was talking about not being able to fly out until Friday night so instead of taking off Friday and Monday one would take off Monday/Tuesday!! Also, if Tom has tests on Friday he may not be able to leave until Friday night either.

    for how many days does everybody want to ski (that’s correct grammar folks!)? i think a minimum of 2, but i could go as much as 4. i was looking at those rentable condos with the hot tubs. we could fit a semi-comfortable 8 people in a 3 br/2ba.

    anyway, i definitely can’t fly out until friday night, but the skiing days are the only important ones for us to all be there at the same time. friday and tuesday are more optional, unless we do a longer trip.

    also, the multiple-resorts in summit won’t really matter unless we go skiing for more than 2 days b/c of time for checking in/out, drinking, renting equipment, taking lessons, drinking, chilling in hot tubs, eating, drinking, etc.

    I logged on this site again…i dont seem to have the desire to keep up with all of these posts…I am intrigued by the trip, however I despise skiing (damm white people sports)…so alas you will all probably be going without me…even though i would love to see the new surroundings for the mighty joe murphy…just skiing…just cant do it….

    Niles – Tom will not be skiing and I will only be skiing 1 or 2 days max, so you can be on RDS (recreational drug search).

    i can rent a car for a great rate and if we want to stay at a hilton property (instead of a resort) I can get us pampered proper.

    I think most of us are going up Fri-Tues. Lauren and I thought it might be best if we go skiing on Monday and Tuesday. That way we won’t have to deal with weekend prices and it won’t be as busy.

    Also, I’m sure there will be more shit going on in Denver over the weekend. Niles and Shannon are only able to fly in for the weekend since Niles has to work so this solves that problem as well. Just a thought.

    JJ – I have no objections to staying in a hilton instead of a resort if no one else does.

    ok – so i’ve got a client in Denver I’ve got to go see. That means i can bill my flight to the company. what dates exactly do we wanna go? I need hard numbers folks – i’ll book my flight so i’ll work tues-thurs and have the prior weekend through monday free to hang out.

    Also – i work with this person who has friends w/ condos in the ski area – she’s looking into a deal for us. maybe a 3 bedroom w/ a pull out couch? i dunno.

    Hey y’all, didn’t mean to diss on the conversation or nothing, but I’ve been internet-less and on-the-road since the 5th. I’m moving to Denver on the 19th (and signing a lease on the 17th).

    Re: December plans, it’s more likely I’ll have one vacation day than two, but I’d love to push the limits and take a four-day weekend. I can pick up folk from the airport who come in Friday evening, and if y’all coordinate flights to arrive at the same time it would be even sweeter. I’ve got some contacts and old friends in the area, so I can ask them about the lodging stuff / location stuff too… which will probably happen after I get settled in.

    allright, the plane tickets are bought yo (dec. 15- 19). my classmate from denver says that copper mountain and winter park are probably the best.
